Social networking sites, especially Facebook, would come under strict government monitoring in order to prevent the spread of rumours, said State Minister for Information Tarana Halim.
She said: "A special IT cell will monitor the social networking sites for 24 hours. It will detect rumours and forward all relevant information to the mass media within just three hours."
She made the disclosure today while talking with journalists at her Secretariat office in Dhaka.
She further said: "An Information Cell will be formed in order to detect rumours. A total of 21 people will work in three shifts in 24 hours to detect and stop the spread of false information on social media."
At the moment, DMP's cybersecurity division is dedicated to cyber cases. The detective branch also investigates cyber-related incidents but on a small scale.
