A Dhaka court here today fixed October 25 for hearing on charge framing against BNP chief Khaleda Zia and 10 others in the Barapukuria Coalmine graft case.
Judge A H M Ruhul Amin of the Special Judge's Court-2 set up at Bakshibazar Alia Madrasah in Dhaka has fixed the date.
On October 5, 2008, the authorities of the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) submitted a charge sheet against former premier Khaleda Zia and 15 others, including 10 former ministers, in the graft case.
ACC Assistant Director Shamsul Alam has filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on February 26 in 2008.
The accused former ministers of BNP are- M Saifur Rahman (Late), Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan (Late), Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, M Shamsul Islam (Late), MK Anwar (Late), Barrister Aminul Haque, Altaf Hossain Choudhury, and AKM Mosharraf Hossain, Former Jamaat ministers - Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojahid (hanged) and Motiur Rahman Nizami (Hanged) were also accused.
According to the case statement, the accused caused a loss of almost Tk 159 crore to the public exchequer by illegally awarding the contract to China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC), abusing their power.
