Authorities of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Tangail have suspended five Chhatra League leaders on charge of misbehaving with two teachers.
The decision came from an urgent meeting of the university regent board at the liaison office in Dhaka on Monday night, hours after 56 teachers of the university resigned from their administrative posts, protesting the matter.
Two regent board members, four deans, four provosts and a total of 14 chairpersons of different departments are among the resigned teachers, the university sources said.
The suspended BCL leaders are--MBSTU unit President Sajib Talukder, Vice-Presidents Imran Miah and Adrita Panna, and Joint-Secretaries Jabir Iqbal and Yasin Arafat.
MBSTU Proctor Dr Sirajul Islam confirmed the news.
Sources and eyewitnesses from the university said MBSTU Physics department published the 2nd-semester results for the second year honors students where a female student, Ishita Biswas, failed with a CGPA of 1.98 out of 4.
The university sources also said, some BCL leaders forcefully put Ishita Biswas into an examination hall of another Physics course Quantum Mechanics-1 around 9am on Sunday despite the department’s disapproval to her.
Ishita, however, has completed her full test with the help of BCL leaders and activists on her side.
BCL men verbally assaulted the on-duty teachers and attempted to assault them physically when the teachers tried to prevent Ishita from appearing in the examination.
