The High Court has granted six-month bail to Chittagong University Assistant Teacher Maidul Islam in a case filed for posting "derogatory content" on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Facebook.

An HC-bench comprising of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman passed the order today, responding to a bail petition filed on October 2.

Maidul posted contents on his Facebook account in favour of the quota reform movement. Following his Facebook status,
the BCL members declared Maidul Islam and another CU teacher persona non-grata on the campus.

On July 15, the Sociology teacher had to leave the campus along with his family following continuous threat reportedly from BCL activists.

Although he sought security from Chittagong University authorities for his safe return to the campus, the CU authorities suspended him.

On July 24, CU student Md Iftekhar Uddin Ayaz, a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), filed a case against him with Hathazari Police Station under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
On September 24, Maidul was sent to jail in connection with the case. And later, he was placed on remand.
