An alleged drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Rajapur area in the district on Saturday morning.

The deceased is Tipu Sheikh, 45, son of late Asor Uddin, of Kabirpur village under sadar upazila. Two members of RAB have also received injuries in this incident.

Lieutenant Commander Ruhul Amin, captain of Pabna RAB-12, said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB conducted a drive at Calico Cotton Mill area around 3:30am.”

“Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on RAB men, forcing the law enforcers to fire back in self-defense,” he added.

At one stage, RAB recovered the body of Tipu while others managed to flee the scene. RAB also seized 770 pieces of yaba tablets along with five rounds of bullets and a foreign revolver from the spot.
