Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the female journalists to protest Barrister Mainul Hosein's "abusive remarks" on journalist Masuda Bhatti.
She made the call while replying to a query of a female journalist during today's press briefing.
She said: "He[Mainul] floated a political party jointly with the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman just after his assassination. So, we cannot expect him to behave politely."
"I would suggest the female journalists filing a defamation case against Barrister Mainul and we will see the matter afterward," she added.
Addressing the female journalists present during the press meet, she further said: "You all should protest this. You must protest."
Referring to Mainul's presence at a programme of Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, the PM further said: "Masuda asked a normal question and that was not a crime. He joined the programme of Shibir, so what else can one ask?"
Barrister Mainul Hosein faced a lawsuit for hurling abusive words at journalist Masuda Bhatti and terming her “characterless” at a television talk show on October 16.
Fifty-five eminent editors and senior journalists have called upon Barrister Mainul Hosein to apologise publicly for his remarks on the female journalist.
