'Drug peddler' killed in Chuadanga 'gunfight'

An alleged drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Sadar upazila of Chuadanga district early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as--Pappu Hussain, 30, son of Bazlur Rahman, hailing from Akandabari village of Sadar upazila.

Confirming the news, Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Delwar Hussain said: “ A team of police was patrolling in Ujalpur area that night. Sensing the presence of police, the drug peddlers opened fire on them, prompting retaliation that triggered a gunfight. ”

“Police rescued the bulled-hit Pappu from the spot and sent him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead,” he added.

Police claimed to have recovered a pistol, two rounds of bullets, four hand-bombs and phensedyls from the spot.

Pappu was accused in six cases filed over the drug-related allegations, according to the claim of police.
