Eight of a family were burnt to death when their house caught fire in the town's Aramnagar area last night (Wednesday).
Confirming the deaths, Joypur Hat Police Super Md Rashidul Haque said: "The fire originated from an electric short circuit around 10 pm on Wednesday in the house while all family members were sleeping, leaving them severely injured.
"They were taken to Joypurhat Zila Adhunik Hospital in critical condition where three people died at the night. The other members of the family were shifted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital after 12 midnight as their condition started deteriorating. Five other victims, who received 75% burns, died at DMCH in between 12 am and 7 am on Thursday."
The deceased are-- Momena Begum, 65, Abdul Mumin, 37, his wife Porina Begum, 30, their daughters Bristi, 14, Hasi, 12, and Khushi, 12, son Abdur Noor, 6, and Dulal Hossain, 71.
