The government has promoted 235 Additional Superintendents of Police (ASP) to the Superintendent of Police (SP) posts.
According to a circular, of the promoted police officials, 230 were given promotions under supernumerary in Grade V.
The officials, who got supernumerary Grade V posts, will hold the same office and perform the same duties even after getting promotions.
Earlier on July 4, the police department sent a request to the home minister seeking promotions of those officials, who are "competent but were not elevated" for a long time.
Supernumerary (in-situ) positions are given to admin cadres in order to ease commotion among officials serving without promotion for a long period.
