Outlaw killed in Rajbari 'gunfight’

An outlawed party leader has been killed in a reported gunfight with detectives in Rajbari Sadar upazila.

The deceased is--Mohammad Ali, 38, a regional commander of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP Marxist-Leninist) Lal Pataka faction, and also the son of Wahab Sheikh, of Pachuria union.

Kamal Hossain Bhuiyan, OC, District Detective Branch of Police, said: "The detective conducted an anti-narcotics drive in Kuti Pachuria area early Thursday. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the outlawed party members opened fire on them. The police also retaliated."

"The extremists at one stage fled the scene leaving behind one of their bullet-hit accomplices, who was later identified as Mohammad Ali," he added.

He was wanted in four cases, said the detectives.
