'Drug peddler' killed in Mymensingh 'gunfight'

An alleged drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Sadar Upazila of Mymensingh district early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as--Sumon, 27, son of Gulam Mustafa, hailing from city's Char Kalibari.

Confirming the information, Mymensingh Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge, Shah Kamal Akhand said: “Being tipped-off that a group of drug traders were selling drug, a team of detectives conducted a drive to Char Puliamari area of the city to capture them. Sensing the presence of police, the drug peddlers opened fire on them, prompting retaliation that triggered a gunfight.”

“Police rescued bulled-injured Sumon after the gunfight and sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead,” he added.

Police claimed to have recovered 4 kilograms of Marijuana from the spot.

Sumon was accused in 10 cases filed over the drug-related allegations, according to the claim of police.
