The police have arrested BNP leader Nipun Roy Chowdhury, also the daughter-in-law of standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, while released singer Baby Naznin after a brief detention.
The police picked them up from the Capital's Nightingale intersection on Thursday night in connection with three cases filed for alleged attacks on police and causing violence in Nayapaltan on Wednesday.
Three cases had been filed over Wednesday's clash between the police and the BNP members. A total of 488, including senior BNP leaders Mirza Abbas and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, were made accused in those cases.
At least 40 people, including the law enforcers, were injured in the clash in front of the BNP's central office on Wednesday. The angry BNP members reportedly torched two police vehicles during the clash.
According to the case statements, “the attack on police” was aimed at creating instability, unrest, and anarchy.
Police have arrested 65 of the accused, including BNP Chairperson's Adviser Kafiluddin. Of them, 38 have been placed on a five-day remand each while 27 others would be interrogated at the jail gate for three days.
