Two killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

Two suspected drug paddlers were killed in a reported gunfight at Keruntali area of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.

The deceased were Ashik Jahangir Kudrat, 32, son of Md Abdul Hakim of Mymensingh Kotoyali area and Md Arif Hossain, 30, son of Abdul Baker of Tolaboro masjid area of Narayanganj.

Lieutenant Mirza Shahed of Teknaf RAB office has confirmed the news. He said, “They started firing on RAB after RAB told them to stop the truck for checking. This led us to fire back for self-defense.” 

“Two men, who later identified as drug paddler, were killed in the gunfight while other managed to flee the place. Bodies have been taken to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for the autopsy," he added.

Members of RAB recovered two local-made arms, one lakh pieces of yaba tablets and eight bullets from the spot.
