At least 20 people were injured as leaders and activists of ruling party Awami League, and BNP clashed at Doarabazar upazila in the district on Monday night.
The injured are yet to be identified.
Doarabazar Police Station acting Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sushil Ranjon Dash has confirmed the news.
Police and eyewitnesses said that the clash erupted at Norshingpur union of the upazila during an altercation between union BNP President Shahsul Haque and upazila Awami League leader Abdul Mannan over a trivial matter in the night.
“At one stage of the altercation, leaders and activists of the two groups swooped on each other with local weapons, leaving 20 of them injured,” the OC added.
The injured were taken to the upazila health complex for treatment.
