Police have arrested a Bangladesh Nationalists Front leader and also an aspirant for a lawmaker from Bagura-3 constituency from Dhaka More Bus Stand area in the district.
The arrestee is--Abdul Kader Jilani, son of late Khalilur Rahnman, of West Singra village under Bagura’s Adamdhighi upazila.
Jilani submitted his nomination as a BNF candidate for Bagura-3 constituency and according to the district commissioner's office source, his nomination paper was declared valid by the Election Commission.
Contacted, Magistrate GM Rashedul Islam of Bagura DC office said: "I have checked the list of the aspirants, whose nomination papers were rejected and as far I saw Jilani's name was not in the list. That means, his nomination was declared valid."
Asked how can a warranted accused get EC approval to contest in the poll, he said: "I am not the authorized person to answer this question."
Asked whether police can arrest an MP aspirant without the permission of the EC, Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Adamdighi police station, said: “He was a warranted accused and was on the run for a long time. So, police can arrest him without any prior permission.”
