The deadline for the withdrawal of candidature in the 11th parliamentary elections is going to expire on Sunday (today).

The authorities of the Election Commission warned that no candidate would be allowed to quit the election race after 5pm on Sunday.

The EC sources also said a total of 3,065 candidates filed nomination papers to contest the general election slated to be held on December 30.

Awami League has picked up 281 candidates in 264 constituencies while BNP fielded 696 contestants in 295 parliamentary seats to contests in the upcoming general election.

Earlier yesterday, BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia was finally barred from contesting in the upcoming 11th parliamentary election.

She is now barred from polls as the authorities of Election Commission have rejected all three appeals filed against the rejection of her nominations for Feni-1, Bogura-6 and Bogura-7 constituencies.

The decision on the nominations of BNP chief Khaleda Zia for the 11th parliamentary election came around 5pm on Saturday.

BNP chief Khaleda Zia has filed nomination papers for three constituencies --Bogura-6 and 7 and Feni-1.

Former Attorney General AJ Mohammad Ali, the BNP chief’s lawyer, had requested that all three of Khaleda’s nomination appeals be considered together.
