Two 'drug peddlers' killed in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

Two suspected drug paddlers were killed in a reported gunfight with police at Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Thursday.

The deceased were identified as-- Abdur Rashid Prakash, 47, son of late Enam Sharif of Kachubunia area and Abul Kalam, 35, son of Abdur Rahman of Katabania area of Teknaf upazila, listed drug dealers of the areas.

Confirming the news, Teknaf Police Station Officer-in-Charge Pradip Kumar Das said: "Being tipped-off, police conducted a drive to Sabrang Khurermukh area around 1:30am to capture the drug peddlers."

“Sensing law enforcers’ presence, they opened fire on police, prompting a retaliation that triggered a gunfight. At one stage, Abdur Rashid and Abul Kalam were caught in the line of fire," he added.

Police claimed to have recovered five local-made arms and 22 thousands pieces of Yaba pills from the spot.
