At least 50 people received injuries in a fire that broke out at a residential area of Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka tonight.
Of the injured, nearly 20 received severe burns, said police.
According to Fire Service and Civil Defence controlroom officials, the fire broke out at a 5-storied building in Churihatta area around 10:40 pm and soon engulfed two adjacent buildings.
Although residents of some nearby buildings were evacuated immediately, some 50 people received injuries.
Contacted, Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost sources said of the injured, the conditions of five people, who received burns, are critical.
The origin of the fire could not be known immediately.
Our reporter said the entire area now is out of electricity and several vehicles were damaged in the fire.
Thirty-two units of fire fighters are working in order to bring the blaze under control, said Mahfuz Riben, an official of fire service controlroom.
Locals claimed that over 100 people are trapped inside. However, no confirmed information was received in this fregard till updating the news at 2 am.
