BNP has started distributing the nomination forms to its prospective candidates for the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral by-polls from today.
The giving out of the nomination forms has started this morning at the party’s Nayapaltan office in the capital.
Aspirants have been asked to collect nomination papers within the day and to submit those to the party's central office by tomorrow.
According to the party insiders, as of Sunday afternoon, four people willing to contest the by-polls with BNP ticket collected nomination papers.
They are-- Dhaka City (North) BNP President MA Quayum, its Assistant Publication Secretary ShakilWahed, expelled BNP leader Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman and its central leader Asaduzzaman Ripon.
BNP-blessed candidate Tabith Awal who ran against AL-supported contender Annisul Huq in the last DNCC election after the AL-led government split Dhaka city corporation into two in November 2011 is also willing to get the party nomination again.
BNP central executive committee member Tabith Awal, son of BNP vice-chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo, boycotted the polls on the voting day, alleging widespread rigging in the last election held on April 28, 2015.
By-polls to the DNCC mayor post will be held on February 26. The mayor post became vacant after Annisul Huq passed away in London on November 30.
