BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has reached Sylhet to offer fateha at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) this afternoon.

A motorcade carrying Khaleda Zia and her entourage has reached Sylhet Circuit House around 4:30pm today.

After taking rest at the Circuit House, she will offer fateha at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Khaleda Zia is scheduled to return to Dhaka on Monday night, according to the BNP insiders.

Accompanied by top leaders of her party, she set off from her Gulshan residence in the capital around 9:30am on Monday.

The decision of visiting Sylhet came from the party's national executive committee meeting held on Sunday, four days before a trial court is scheduled to pronounce the verdict in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against the BNP chief.

The verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman will be delivered on February 8.

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Court-5 in Dhaka fixed the date on January 25 after the defence closed their arguments.

Earlier on December 19, the prosecution concluded their argument and sought the maximum punishment for Khaleda.

On January 30, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina offered prayers at the three 'dargah' (shrine) of three eminent Muslim saints in the city.
