BNP has started its mass signature campaign programme across the country, demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Private TV channel NEWS24, a sister concern of the Daily Kalerkantho, has reported the mas signature.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has inaugurated the programme at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital around 11am on Saturday.
The law enforcement agencies have taken extra measures in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan office, centering the mass signature campaign.
On February 15, after human chain, sit-in and hunger strike programmes, BNP announced mass signature campaign, memorandum submission and demonstration programmes at district and upazila level across the country.
A special court here in Dhaka handed down five-year imprisonment to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia after convicting her in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8.
Khaleda’s son Tarique Rahman and four others have also been sentenced to 10 years in jail in the same case.
Demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, according to the announcement, the party leaders will also submit memorandum to every Deputy Commissioner in the country on January 18 (tomorrow).
