BNP has staged a human shield programme in the capital today, demanding the release of their Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
BNP has announced the programme yesterday as part of the party’s peaceful protests to press home their demands.
The hour-long human chain programme from 11am to 12pm was held in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country, according to BNP insiders.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, a senior joint secretary general of the party, announced the programme in a press briefing held at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters on Monday.
Swechchhasebak Dal President Shafiul Bari Babu has been detained from the capital’s National Press Club on Tuesday while attending the human chain programme.
On February 8, a special court in Dhaka handed down five-year imprisonment to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia after convicting her in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Khaleda’s son Tarique Rahman and four others have also been sentenced to 10 years in jail in the same case.
