Oikyafront leader and JSD President ASM Abdur Rob said that the newly formed opposition political alliance Oikyafront will not take part in the upcoming general elections if the election schedule is not delayed.
ASM Abdur Rob made the comment while giving his reactions immediately after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda announced the polls schedule set to be held by December 23 this year.
“The election schedule must be deferred,” he added.
Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahabubul Alam Hanif and Ruhul Amin Hawlader of JP, however, have welcomed the schedule on behalf of their respective parties in immediate reactions tonight.
While addressing the nation ahead of the upcoming national polls, CEC KM Nurul Huda urged all political parties in the country to take part in the 11th parliamentary election.
“Take part in the election to continue Bangladesh’s development processes, upholding the democracy on a stronger manner,” he urged the registered political parties.
As per the polls schedule, the national election will be held on December 23 this year.
KM Nurul Huda in the nationwide televised address said: “Vote cast will be held on December 23 this year.”
The CEC further said: “The aspirants will have to submit their nomination papers by November 19 while the nomination papers will be scrutinized on November 22.”
“The deadline to withdraw the nomination forms is November 29,” he said in the 15-minute speech.
Pointing to EVM usage in the national polls, he also said: “We are going to introduce electronic voting machines on a limited scale for the first time in parliamentary elections.”
