BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has been released from Chattogram jail this morning.

Senior Jail Super of Chattogram Jail Proshanto Kumar Bonik has confirmed the news.

He said: “The BNP leader has been released on bail around 6.45am today.”

Earlier on October 21, a Chattogram court sent BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury to jail, rejecting his bail petition in a case filed on charges of provoking the recent student movement for safe roads.

The city’s Metropolitan Session Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha passed the order on the day after the BNP leader surrendered before the court upon the expiry of his anticipatory bail period.

On August 5, Jakaria Dastagir, general secretary of Chattogram city unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), filed a case with Chattogram Kotwali Police Station under the ICT and Special Powers Act.

According to the case statement, the BNP leader was trying to create anarchy in the country during the nationwide student protests demanding safe roads.
On October 7, the High Court extended his bail till October 21 asking him to surrender before the lower courts concerned on the expiry of the bail period.
