Prioty speaks up for mothers of children with disabilities

Showing her respect to all Bangladeshi mothers, beauty queen Maksuda Akhter Prioty has again spoken up for the mothers of children with disabilities.

In a recent Facebook post, the Bangladeshi-origin Irish model highlighted the indomitable sacrifices made by a mother while raising a child with disabilities.

She posted a three-minute video clip which was taken during her recent visit to the annual picnic of Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP).

In her post, she wrote: "While going through the photographs and videos that I took during my recent Dhaka visit, I suddenly discovered that this video fills my heart with joy."

"Later, I found out the actual reason behind my happiness. My source of happiness is the smiling faces of the mothers, who sacrifice all their enjoyment and good things in life in order to ensure the wellbeing of their special children. If you look closely at them, you will see that they also love to make fun, they like enjoying their own times very much, but they happily sacrifice all these, devoting all their times to their children," she added.

She continued: "And the most important thing is most of the children were accompanied by their mother during the event. So I understand these mothers actually spend 24x7 with their kids. They deserve a break at least once a day for pampering themselves to take a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. But, who knows they are not allowed to enjoy their own time as most of the men would find it unusual.

"Women are also responsible for this. They forget all their enjoyment as they work like machines and make all others members of the family dependant on them. As a result, many husbands and sons don't want the female members of their family to go out for enjoying a day of their own."

"We have set our minds in such a way that a mother should bear all the responsibilities of taking care of the kids and the father will only provide the money. But my question is: If both are responsible for the birth of a child then why should the mother take all the responsibilities of raising a kid?" she added.

Prioty further said: "A man can take a lunch break, coffee break, and TV break while performing his duty at office. But, despite working for almost all the day, a mother is not allowed to take her own time. She even is not rewarded for her sacrifices. We never think about their rights.

"If this video will remind you that a mother has all the rights to enjoy her life and take a short break to rejuvenate her soul. Most of you [men] think that kids cannot survive even a few minutes without their mothers and fathers cannot manage them for a long time. But you are wrong. Actually, you have created a mental gap with your kids and that's why they don't feel comfortable while spending times with you."

"You think that mothers don't face the work-life hassle like you guys do. But, you can't measure it in such a simple way. Managing kids and household chores are a very easy job to you but when you are asked to do the same same thing, you just surrendered. But, a 17 or 18 years old newly married girl perform all her duties without even making a complaint. We must keep open our eyes and understand the pain and struggle of a mother having a special kid," she added.
