Students of different schools and colleges across the country have taken to the streets for the fifth consecutive day and blockaded several roads demanding road safety and exemplary punishment of the responsible persons over the death of two students who lost their lives in a road crash in capital’s Kurmitola area last Sunday.
The flame of the students' protests sparked and spread all over the country since yesterday.
Let's have a look at the overall scenario of the students' protests across the country.
Dhaka: In Dhaka, hundreds of thousands of students of different institutions including general people and celebrities gathered at different points of the capital demanding road safety.
Vehicular movements remained suspended for hours as the students took their position in Shahbagh, Science Lab, Mohakhali, Uttara, Kuril, Farmgate, Bashundhara and several points of Naraynaganj.
Mymensingh: In Mymensingh, hundreds of students took the position at Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam Square at around 11:30 am. The agitating students of city blockaded several roads and started checking licenses of vehicles.
Bus owners of Mymensingh have suspended the movement of Dhaka-bound buses from the city for students demonstration.
Kushtia: In Kushtia, seveal students from different institutions of the city gathered in front of the Kushtia Traffic Office around 9:30am with placards and banners demanding road safety and exemplary punishment of the culprits.
At the begging, the police tried to debacle the human chain. After assuring a peaceful human bondage by students, police didn't interfere anymore.
Hundreds of thousands of students conducted human chain peacefully on the Jhenaidah-Iswardi highway. Later they moved to Kushtia town by chanting slogan.
Bagura: In Bagura, agitated students of Government Azizul Haque College and BIAM Model School and College took the position to the central point of the city. Some parents also joined the movement with the students.
At one stage, some students vandalized a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan and a truck on the road. After that, the police took the students out of the highway. While returning, they vandalized two more stationary buses near Bagura Railway Station.
Noakhali: In Noakhali, students of Noakhali Zilla School organized a human chain in front of the school around 10am.
Police took the students out from the place. Students then blocked the road and formed a human chain in front of Noakhali Press Club.
Later, around 11:15am, students from different private colleges and schools, gathered at the city's Townhall intersection. Some students vandalized three buses on the road.
Brahmanbaria: In Brahmanbaria, students of Brahmanbaria Government College brought out a peaceful procession around 10am. Students of various colleges and schools participate in the procession later.
Students moved with a human chain and stayed at Comilla-Sylhet highway for a while.
However, the protesters did not make any kind of chaos while staging the demonstration.
Dinajpur: In Dinajpur, several students of the different institutions including Dinajpur Zilla School and Holy Land College staged a 2-hour demonstration from 10am to 12pm in Lilimore area demanding road safety and exemplary punishment of the alleged driver.
Chuadanga: In Chuadanga, a procession by the students was staged inside the police enclosure in Shaheed Hasan Chattar around 10.30am.
The procession ended in central Shaheed Minar via Shahid Alaul Islam road and Shahid Rabiul Islam road.
Students of Chuadanga Government College, Government Adarsha Mahila College, VJ Government High School, Government Girls High School, Jhinuk Secondary School, Chuadanga Academy participated in the procession.
Chandpur: In Chandpur, hundreds of students participated in a procession around 10.30am at city's bus stand area vandalized two vehicles. Several students were injured when police chased them.
After the incident, students vandalized eight more vehicles in the city's Chitralekha intersection, Mission Road and Kalibari area.
Students took place in different places including Chandpur-Comilla Road demanding road safety. After getting the assurance of fair trial from the police, the students temporarily lifted the blockade at around 12:30 pm.
Rajshahi: In Rajshahi, several students gathered in the city's Zero Point area around 10am with placards in hand and blocked roads demanding road safety.
Additional police were deployed in the city to avoid unpleasant incidents. Students staged "three minutes of silence" in memory of two students killed in Dhaka road crash.
Jessore: In Jessore, hundreds of students from different institutions took to the street of Dartana intersection in Jessore city around 11am.
Several students laid down on the street with the national flag and placard while staging a demonstration.
Barisal: In Barisal, students protested by blocking Dhaka-Barisal Highway in Choumatha area of the city around 11am.
Hundreds of students blocked the highway by ignoring the rain and chanting slogans for justice.
During the procession, students checked licenses of different vehicles. Several vehicles tried to cross the demonstration and students prevented the vehicular movement.
However, the students gave the pass to emergency services including ambulances.
Moulvibazar: In Moulvibazar, hundreds of students took position with placards in front of the City's Fine Arts Academy.
At that time, students chanted slogans demanding compensation for the losses in the road accident and the exemplary punishment of the accused driver.
Tangail: In Tangail, thousands of students of various educational institutions took to the street of Tangail city bypass around 12pm.
During the procession, students chanted slogans demanding the resignation of Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan and road safety across the country.
During the blockade, hundreds of vehicles were trapped on the highway.
On information, police rushed to the spot and requested the agitated students to move away from the road. After an hour, the students withdrew the blockade.
Sylhet: In Sylhet, Thousands of students gathered in the city's Chouhatta area demanding justice and road safety.
Students of several institutions of the city participated in the human chain programme.
Students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and Sommilito Sangskritik Jote also organized human chain demanding road safety and exemplary punishment of the accused bus driver.
Earlier on Sunday (July 29), two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College were killed and 12 others received injuries on Airport Road as a Jabal-e-Noor bus ploughed through a crowd, while competing with another bus of the same company.
Since then, the students of different colleges and educational institutions have been demonstrating demanding a safe road and exemplary punishment of the accused drivers.
