Walton doubles smartphone sales in Q1 2018

The sales of Walton brand smartphones increased twice in the first quarter of 2018 thanks to its local production. Walton is now holding the second position in Bangladesh smartphone market with 15 percent share.
 
According to the latest research from Counterpoint’s Market Monitor program for Q1 2018 (January-March), the sales of Walton brand smartphones increased 8 percent, a press release e-mailed by Senior Assistant General Manager of Creative and Publications Department of Walton Group Augustin Sujan Barai has confirmed the news.
 
Its total market share is now 15 percent which were only 7 percent in the first quarter of 2017.
 
The Walton authorities termed the sales hike as the reflection of customers’ trust to ‘Made in Bangladesh’ labelled products.
 
They outlined four points upon which the sales of Walton brand smartphones increased which are local made, high quality, affordable prices and best after sales service. 
 
Informing that Walton started marketing smartphones in 2012, SM Rejoan Alam, chief coordinator of Walton Cellular Phone, said that they began local production on October last year and in a short time, 6 models of smartphones along with one model of feature phone were released in local market.
 
These products earned positive feedback from customers who contributed to double our market share, he noted.
 
Uday Hakim, deputy executive director of Walton, said: “Country’s tech lovers received ‘Made in Bangladesh’ smartphones confidently. It’s a very positive sign for local tech industry as it saves huge foreign currency and creates an employment opportunity which contributes to country's economic progress by reducing the dominance of foreign companies.
 
He hoped that Walton will soon capture the top position in country’s smartphone market by providing quality products with latest features at affordable prices.
 
Mentioning that the country is getting the benefits of government’s support to the mobile phone sector, Asifur Rahman Khan, chief of Walton Cellular Phone Marketing division, said: 4G telecommunication service has recently been introduced in the country.
 
Works at Walton Mobile Phone Plant are going on to provide customers 4G smartphones at affordable prices. We hope to deliver the first Made in Bangladesh 4G smartphone to customers in the upcoming Eid. The phone will be the most affordable 4G handset in the country.
 
He said customers are being provided with 30 days instant replacement guaranty with 101 days after sales service on priority basis which are given within 48 hours beside the regular one-year warranty.
 
These special facilities are contributing on the boosts of the sales of ‘Made in Bangladesh’ smartphones.
 
Concerned sources said this positive attitude of customers towards local made products is very encouraging. It will help the domestic tech industry to expand further by creating more employments and saving hard earned foreign currencies.
 
Ultimately customers will be benefited as they will get quality products at affordable prices.
