The authorities of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) have ordered the telecom operators to introduce the minimum uniform call rate of Tk 0.45 a minute from today.
Md Jahurul Haque, acting chairman of the commission, has confirmed the news.
“Uniform charge will remove the call rate disparity and it will also help the telecom watchdog establish a level playing field for all the operators,” he added.
The BTRC came up with the decision two weeks ago with a scope to revise it time-to-time after a meeting with Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Prime Minister's ICT Affairs Adviser,” Md Jahurul Haque told to reporters.
He also said this move will also save the customers from getting bill shocks when mobile number portability (MNP) is made available following its launch later in October of the current year.
The commission in its decision has also set the interconnection charge for off-net calls at Tk 0.14 per minute, including Tk 0.04 for interconnection exchange or ICX operators, and Tk 0.10 for call termination operators.
