Hundreds of people of all walks of life thronged at the Krishibid Institution in the capital's Khamarbari area for buying eggs at Tk3 each on Friday morning.
The selling of eggs began at 10 am. However, long queues of buyers were seen since the early morning in the area, disrupting the normal traffic on the route.
A number of incidents of struggle and tussle happened at the venue, causing damage to dozens of eggs.
Department of Livestock Services (DLS) and Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) launched the egg selling programme, marking the World Egg Day.
Bangladesh is observing the day with over 40 countries of the world simultaneously.
