Emotional leaders and activists of the BNP broke into tears after hearing the news of party chief Khaleda Zia's conviction in Zia Orphanage graft case.
The leaders and activists, who were present at the court premises during the verdict, burst into tears and started chanting slogan against the authorities.
Khaleda Zia's Special Assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas was picked up by the law enforcers as he protested the conviction inside the courtroom.
Judge Md Aktheruzzaman of the Special Court-5 handed down five-year imprisonment to the BNP chairperson today. She was taken to the Old Dhaka Jail immediately after the verdict was delivered.
While saying bye to the party chairperson, BNP senior leaders and standing committee members broke down into tears.
Later during a press conference, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and many other senior leaders started weeping in grief.
Earlier in the day, Khaleda while leaving her Gulshan house for the court comforted her sad relatives and said: "Be strong."
