Excepting a few places in Chattogram, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today
the predicted sunny weather over the country, including the capital city, on Saturday, supposed to be the day of holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
“The weather is likely to be sunny on Saturday (June 16) over the country, including capital city. But rain is likely to occur at many places over Sylhet division and at a few places over Mymensingh and Chattogram divisions,” Arif Hossain, a meteorologist at BMD told BSS today.
However, heavy (44-88mm) to very heavy (89-mm) rainfall with gusty or squally wind is likely to occur over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions in 24 hrs commencing from 11 am today, as strong monsoon deep convection is continuing over North Bay and adjoining coastal area of the country, he said.
Due to very heavy rainfall landslide may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
Besides, the met office in a press release, forecasted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes at many places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, at a few places over Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Barishal divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi and Khulna divisions in 24 hours as of 9 am tomorrow.
Day temperature might rise by 1-2 degrees Celsius along with the slight increase in night temperature over the country during the period, the release added.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 36.4 degrees Celsius yesterday at Chuadanga in Khulna division and today’s minimum temperature 23.0 degrees Celsius at Rajarhat and Sylhet.
The highest 203 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am today was recorded at Teknaf in Chattogram division.
