Salman Khan was threatened by gangster Lawrence Vishnoi inside Jodhpur Court on Friday. The actor was here for a hearing in a case against him for allegedly killing blackbucks in 1998.
While the nature of the threat was not immediately known, the incident happened when Vishnoi was presented in court under heavy police security. He is facing charges of extortion, reports Zeenews.
Salman Khan too was inside the court premises at the time Vishnoi was being produced. Friday was the second day straight when the actor was present.
The final arguments in the Kankani poaching case began in the trial court on September 13.
During one of his hearings at the Jodhpur Court, Lawrence in his interaction with the media threatened to kill Salman Khan, reports a leading Hindi news website. It can be assumed that the reason behind the death threat could be the gangster's affiliation with the Bishnoi community which has considered the actor as a "villain" ever since he, along with other actors was accused of poaching a black-buck while shooting for the movie, Hum Sath Sath Hain in 1998.
Notably, Salman Khan attended a hearing in the poaching case on Thursday. Salman Khan along with Sonali Bendre, Saif Ali Khan and Tabu were accused of poaching blackbucks during the shooting of their film in Jodhpur. Two of these endangered species that are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act were killed on the outskirts of Kankani village near Jodhpur. Earlier in January 2017, Salman had testified in 1998 case and pleaded not guilty. The actor, in his statement, had said "Only the first forensic report of Dr. Nepalia saying that the animal died of "natural causes" was true and the rest of the evidence is false".
This is not the first time Bhaijaan has been threatened to be killed, Earlier in February 2016, Salman Khan was handed down a death threat by an anonymous caller, prompting legal action. Although the location from where the call was made was later identified, police have suspected it was a hoax call, according to timesnownews report.
On the professional front, Salman Khan is revering in the success of his recent release Tiger Zinda Hai. The 52-year-old has also kick-started shooting for his next film, Race 3.
