Traffic Division is working to bring discipline in traffic: DMP boss

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said The Traffic Division is working hard to bring discipline in traffic.

He said: "Circular bus services will be introduced within April next in Motijheel, Dhanmondi, Uttara and Gulshan, and hopefully the city’s traffic situation will witness much improvement then."

"I have already talked to the mayors of Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation to this end. The process has already been started," he added.

He made the remarks while inaugurating a traffic week, 5th of its kind, near the Saarc Fountain in the capital’s Karwanbazar area today.

The DMP chief further said: "The mass rapid transit (MRT), bus rapid transit (BRT) and elevated expressway works are underway and those will be completed within two years. The entire traffic scenario will be changed once those are opened."

"Besides, the DMP will carry out an awareness programme so that people use footbridges, underpasses and zebra crossings which will reduce the number of accidents," he added.

He also said the DMP Traffic Division is working in coordination with the two city corporations, Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) to ease the traffic situation and bring back discipline on roads in the city.

He urged all to follow traffic rules.
