Moksudul on 5-day remand over Rafi murder

Sonagazi Municipal Councillor Moksudul Alam, who was shown arrested in a case filed in connection with the sensational murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi in Feni, has been taken on a five-day remand.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Saraf Uddin Ahmed came up with the remand order around 12am today, after Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Md Shah Alom produced him before the court.

Police, on Thursday, arrested Sonagazi Municipal Councillor and also the acting general secretary of the city Awami League Moksudul Alam and his close aide Md Jabed in the case.

The members Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested Moksudul around 9:30pm on the day from Dhaka while Jabed from Chattogram.

On Saturday, the authorities of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) unearthed that Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa principal (fired) Siraj Ud Doula ordered his aides to set Nusrat Jahan Rafi on fire.

Nur Uddin, another prime accused in the sensational Rafi murder case, has confessed to his involvement in the murder of Rafi.

PBI also claimed that Nusrat Jahan Rafi was set on fire as she rejected the love-offer from Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) President of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa unit Shahadat Hossain Shamim.

“A total of 13 people were involved in all processes of setting Nusrat ablaze,” the PBI said.

They also said: “Of them, a total of six accused persons were present at the time of setting fire on her body.”

Police arrested Shahadat Hossain Shamim, and also the close aide of principal (fired) Siraj Ud Doula, main accused of the sensational Nusrat murder case earlier on Saturday.

He was arrested around 1:45am from Muktagasa in Mymensingh, Kalerkantho Bangla learned.

Nur Uddin was detained from Bhaluka of Mymensingh around 11am yesterday, said Bhaluka Police Station OC Firoz Talukder.

Nusrat Jahan Rafi, who was set on fire by unidentified miscreants, was laid to rest at her family graveyard in Sonagazi upazila of Feni on Thursday evening.

18-year-old Rafi, who was an Alim examinee under the madrasa board, succumbed to her burn injuries around 9pm at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday.

As of now a total of 13 alleged people have been arrested from across the country in connection with the murder while 11 of them were taken to remand for separate terms.
