The International Crimes Tribunal- 1 has set Thursday for delivering its verdict against Mahbubur Rahman in a case filed over the murder of philanthropist Ranada Prasad Shaha during the Liberation War in 1971.
The tribunal headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam fixed the date today.
Earlier on April 24, the tribunal kept the case waiting for the verdict as both the prosecution and the defence lawyers closed their arguments in the case.
The prosecution sought the death penalty for the accused while the defence lawyers prayed for his acquittal claiming that the prosecution failed to prove the charges.
Mahbubur Rahman, 69, of Tangail's Mirzapur has been in jail since 2016 after his arrest. He is facing three charges of abduction, torture, and murder.
According to the case statement, Mahbubur was involved with Razakar Bahini. He allegedly abducted and killed Ranada Prasad, his son Bhabani Prasad and five others during the Liberation War.
